About Oak Hill Veterinary Care & Pet Resort

Dr. Cheryl Simpson Freeman

Dr. Cheryl Simpson-Freeman is a 2005 graduate of Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and a classmate of Dr. Baker.  Dr Freeman has 16 years’ experience as a small animal veterinarian and additional certification in acupuncture for pets. Professionally, Dr Freeman enjoys geriatrics and is especially known for helping very old cats live their best life.  She is active in the local veterinary association and has served on the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors since graduation.  Outside of work, Dr Freeman has been married for 31 years to her husband Bill and they have two young, active daughters aged 6 and 9.  She enjoys reading, horseback riding, shooting and anything ocean, including SCUBA diving and gourmet food and cooking.  This past fall she added an EMT class to see the human medical field.

Dr. Robin Hubbard

Dr. Hubbard grew up in rural upstate New York and started out with horses and dairy cattle. She graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Animal Science and from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine with her DVM in 1985. She has practiced in Iowa, New York and Michigan and in Virginia since 2007.  Dr. Hubbard is a former practice owner.  In veterinary practice, Dr. Hubbard has a special interest in applying new methods and procedures that improve our pet’s health and quality of life, dental procedures, and senior pets. June 2021 Dr. Hubbard began semi-retirement to spend time with her family and travel with her husband Randy.  She is delighted to be a part of the team at Oak Hill Veterinary Care.

Dr. Jessica Saunders

Dr. Saunders is originally from West Virginia and graduated from Marshall University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry in 2016. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University in May 2020. Dr. Saunders practiced at a local Hospital in Lynchburg for almost 3 years. She then joined Oak Hill in March of 2023. Dr. Saunders has an interest in preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. She enjoys hiking, swimming, and exploring new places.

Cindy Morris

Practice Manager

Cindy is a born and raised small town girl, from Madison Heights, leveraging a two-decade career working in the healthcare field. She joined Oak Hill when it opened in 2021 and has dedicated herself to a well-run and smooth operating facility. Currently serving as the Practice Manager, Cindy leverages her decades of administrative experience and passion for helping others to ensure Oak Hill provides the absolute best care for our clients and most importantly, their beloved pets! When not working she enjoys spending time with her husband, their beloved fur baby Nadia and spending her remaining time with family and friends (A girl must have priorities!). Cindy is a 3x Cancer Survivor, desiring to share her journey in hopes of supporting others who may be going through cancer.

Mary has had a love for animals since she was a child. As a teenager she decided to start caring for them as a veterinary assistant until she graduated high school and pursued a career in Veterinary medicine.  Mary is a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College with an Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.  Her special interests are dentistry and internal medicine.  In her spare time, Mary enjoys turkey hunting and spending time with family and friends.  Mary has 2 dogs, Rooster a redbone coonhound, and Puddin a rabbit beagle, and a cat named Bubba (pictured).  Mary has worked alongside Dr. Baker in years past, and is extremely happy to be working with her again to help support her in her lifelong dream of opening a new practice.

Kama Clay

Veterinary Assistant

Kama has a bachelor’s degree in Equine Science, and she wants to continue her education in a few years. She has been working in the veterinary field for 3 years now. She enjoys gaining more knowledge and understanding on how to help the patients that come through our door. She loves both cats and dogs and has two dogs of her own. One is a standard poodle named Oodles and the other is a maltipoo named Zoey! Kama also has 2 horses, chickens, guineas, and bees! Some of her hobbies when she is not working on the farm include riding her horses and baking.

Sarah Johnson

Veterinary Assistant

Sarah Johnson is a certified veterinary assistant from Blue Ridge Community College, and she is currently enrolled at Penn Foster to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  She has grown up in the small town of Amherst. She is engaged to be married to her high school sweetheart. Sarah’s passion for caring for animals came at a very young age. She has always owned animals and wanted to learn more and care for animals as best as I can. She loves – and – owns 10 cats, 5 large breed dogs which include 3 husky mixes, German Shepherd mix, and an American Pitbull. Sarah is an animal lover! After graduating her goal is to care for as many animals as she can by working in many different fields of veterinary medicine. Sarah’s desire is to go back to school to specialize in a particular subject/field in veterinary medicine. She wants to work with large animals, small animal, exotics, aquatics, and zoo animals. When she is not caring for animals, her favorite hobbies include reading, traveling, hiking, enjoying time with her fiancé, friends, and family, playing video games, and watching tv shows!  

Amanda Garrett

Amanda Garrett is born and raised in Rustburg, Va. She graduated with a degree in healthcare, but always had a passion for working with animals. She is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the amazing team at Oak Hill Veterinary Care and Pet Resort. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her Dachshund Copper.

Hi, my name is Angel and I am the pet groomer here at Oak Hill! My passions are pet grooming and animal care! I love being able to meet new fur babies every day. Helping them look their best and getting to know each one is my favorite part of grooming. I have my grooming certificate through Penn Foster. Currently I have worked in the grooming industry off and on for the past 7 years. Through my journey I have spent the last 3 years gaining more professional experience. I am always looking for new things to learn and ways to improve my skills. A few of my favorite breeds to groom are poodles, doodles, King Charles cavaliers although I enjoy grooming all sizes and breeds. I do not mind working with fur babies that need a little extra time or patience as well, my goal is to make their grooming experience as comfortable and stress free as possible. I am married and have two daughters, two dogs and two Guinea pigs and in my free time I enjoy spending time with my family. I look forward to meeting your fur babies and pampering them.

Hi, my name is Rebecca but I liked to be called Becca. I have 2 crazy cats and a hyper active puppy. I love reading and hiking with my pets. I’ve been taking care of animals all of my life ranging from fish, horses, cows, cats and dogs! I’m very grateful to be able to take care of your pets at lodging and during daycare. I love it because you get to see all their goofiness in spades!

Lea Evans

Receptionist

As a new addition to the Oak Hill team, I have been welcomed with open arms! The doctors, management, staff and patients are truly amazing here! I have been working in the veterinary medicine field for two decades now and it’s never a dull moment! Originally from New Jersey, I’ve made Lynchburg my hometown. Camping, festivals and four wheeling on the farm is where you can find me if I’m not here with my team loving on your pet.

Kara Feehan

Receptionist

Kara lives in Lynchburg with her family and 2 fur babies, Blaze and Tattoo.  She has been a happy pet owner for the last 18 years.  She has a background in customer service, management, and healthcare. Combined with her love and appreciation for animals, her previous work experiences have provided her with the foundation on which to build new experiences in the veterinary field as a receptionist.  Kara  states “ I enjoy connecting with clients and their pets and value being part of the dynamic team at Oak Hill.”

Mikayla

Mikayla, born in Lynchburg, raised in Amherst, VA. At such a young age Mikayla has overcome a circumstantial number of challenges that have formed her into the incredibly passionate young woman that she is today. One of the great things about her is she is always willing to lend a helping hand, whether you have 2 legs or 4. She is in her senior year of high school, juggling being homeschooled and working. She has big plans for her future and never fails to show that she can work for them. Mikayla wants to get into Real state at a young age and plans do go to college for a business degree. She has lots of fur babies that is she adores of her own. Such as a Rottweiler, Great Dane, 2 pugs, a Dotson/Chihuahua mix, 2 hairless cats, a bunny, four chickens, and a splash of fish. When Mikayla’s not at work she can be found at home spending time with her older, cuddled up together enjoying a good romance book.
